a little flower of hope

Last weekend, I got to take the three and a half hour trip north to go home for the weekend. Yesterday was my dad's birthday, so I was up there to celebrate and we had family portraits done for our church directory.

It rained all day Saturday. But during a brief break in the rain, I snuck outside to take pictures. I found this flower in the backyard, by the driveway, and it was so bright and vivid, I couldn't not take a picture.

Despite the fact that it's been cold and it rained all weekend, that flower marched on and was still gorgeous and refused to take a beat down.

Somedays, I feel beaten down, but I saw that flower and it gave me a little hope. To keep marching on and stay strong.

a fresh start

The past few months since the end of MBB and the beginning of LEC, I've really been struggling to find a design and a logo that represent me. I could never find a good solid idea that was ME.

I've gone back and forth on ideas, color schemes, logos, everything. But I think I've found what I want.  I originally wanted to go for a lighter blue and a shade a little bit more red, but I found this gorgeous color combination on Pinterest of navy and coral and it suddenly hit me, I needed it. I've seen the color combo many times before, but I feel like it's just hit in me in the face the past few days.  I added the beige as a soft color because quite frankly, I'm sick of grey. I wanted something bright and happy.

So, needless to say, I think this one is stay for a long while. And I couldn't be happier.

Oh, also, happy birthday to my daddy! Love him so much!

TIGF :: Things I'm Grateful For

Sharing what we’re grateful for every Friday with Ashely and Nathan from After Nine to Five!
Feel free to share what you’re grateful for in the comments or in a post of your own!

job offers . dinner with my aunt . long drives home! . finishing projects and being done with them . long conversations on the phone with great friends . walks at night through my complex . cancelled classes . new music to listen to . the wonderful weather . nice long weekends alone . new friends and bonding . clean closets and bathrooms . late night trips to walmart with lots of giggles . not having a concussion after I was hit in the head . hair to cover that bruise

As I look at this picture, I'm realizing just how clear my skin is looking. AND I AM LOVING IT. (like, it's so clear, I didn't do ANY TOUCH UP ON MY FACE - and I never thought I would be able to say that).

Everyone has their lucky number. Mine has always been twenty-four. As a kid, in basketball, I always wanted to be 24 or the closest number to 24.

24 has also been a significant date in my life, especially in the past few years. Just a few examples?

1. May 24th - the day I got dumped (I always thought this was a bad sign, but now, in my wiser days, I realized I really dodged a bullet on that one!)

2. May 24th (a year later) - met my first roommate in college and one of my now closest friends on that day.

3. April 24th - Cassie Dreandry's birthday is April 24th. I swear, I did not plan that!

4. April 24th - I took a chance on life and signed my Mary Kay agreement on April 24th.

And now, it's been six months and I'm having a blast. 24 is my number and I'm pretty sure if I get married/engaged, it'll be when I'm 24. I hope.

Who knows, maybe I'll get married on the 24th? How funny would that be?

24 is my lucky number. What's yours?

Maybe it's this old purity ring I wear on my finger, but I've always been a modest dresser. T-shirts are my go-to outfit, every day. But every now and then, you gotta spice it up a bit and look decent. But even my "looking decent" is pretty covered up. It was 85 degrees outside last week (add some massive humidity to it and you'll understand my pain), but here I was wearing riding boots.

Modesty is something that I've adapted both because of my faith and my wavering opinion of my own body. Yeah, I mean, I want to be pretty and such, but I've always run in the middle of the road in looks (at least I'd like to think so). I want people to be impressed by me, personally and what I'm doing with my life.

Being "sexy" looking isn't something on the top of my list (though if you ask some friends, I'm sure they'd say I'd have a boyfriend if it was :P). I believe modesty in a way is sexy. Waiting to expose it all to one special person, that makes you special, because you're willing to wait.

I'll always be a modest dresser.

And that's perfectly fine for me.

Oh, extra goodie today:

Popularity Contest

This post originally showed up on the Better Blogger Network's blog.
I’ve been blogging for three and a half years now, some may call me an expert, some may say I need to give it all up. I don’t have fabulous statistics, great page views, or a mega following.
I’d be lying if I said that doesn’t ever bother me. Sometimes it does. Sometimes I want to be blog famous and popular. I know a lot of big bloggers (at least those I perceive to be “big” bloggers). But after three years, I realized, it doesn’t matter.

Yes, it’s great to have fabulous stats and great page views – but that’s not what’s important in blogging. So many people have made blogging out as some kind of popularity contest – and it’s not. Blogging should be a representation of who you are. I’m in college, college is too big to have anyone be the most popular person on campus.
And even if there was, it certainly would not be me. I’m okay with that. In life and in blogging. Trying to be popular and cheating yourself in blogging (and in life), gets you nothing. Being true to yourself gives you the ability to look back later in life and see what happened in your life.

Life shouldn’t be a popularity contest. Neither should blogging. Both should be a reflection of the true you. So stay true to yourself and you’ll find your popularity is with those who are meant to be there for you.

Special Olympics State

Last Friday, after class, I jumped in my car and drove the hour west to College Station. Yes, my aunt lives there, but last weekend, Texas A&M hosted Texas Special Olympics for their Fall Classic. There were a bunch of sports including swimming. My brother, Bryan, participated in the state swimming competition.

Because it was so close, I couldn't not go. So, I got to spend the weekend with my family and the camera.

I also got to see an old high school friend, Sam. We actually sang together in the middle school choir and I always said "hi" to her at school. When she found out Bryan was my brother, she always asks my family about me.

It was a great weekend with my family, and I'm going home this next weekend, can't wait to see them all again.

Things I'm Grateful For :: TIGF

What are you thankful for?

One Month

Note: I am NOT going bald, despite what this picture seems to think.

I realized last night, I only have ONE month of being a teenager left. And then I realized between this and 21 Before 21 the other day, this is one-month countdown week to 20th birthday? I've done a lot in my teens and I can't believe there's only 31 days left.

When my friend, Andrew, turned 20 earlier this year, I teased him about being old. Does this mean I'm gonna be old too?

Well, I'm an old soul anyways.

So, here's to one more month of being a teenager. The end of one chapter.

It's been a big year (But lets talk about that next month, ok?)

So, here's to one more month. One more month.

Crazy, ain't it?

Happy Thursday! Hopefully y'all are warm (nasty cold front came through Tuesday night) and have a great day!

21 Before 21

Yes, I am only 19 right now, but my 20th birthday is only a month away, so it's a little hard to do 20 before 20. So, I gave myself some extra time for 21 goals before 21.

1.) Get my Chevy Cruze
2.) Read Fifty Books (sadly, this is a hard thing to do now)
3.) Publish a book
4.) Write TA 2
5.) Write a book outside of the TA series
6.) Find all the prisons in and around Huntsville
7.) Go to a gun range (totally planning on getting one for my 21st birthday)
8.) Help a photographer shoot a wedding.
9.) Take a road trip in the backroads of Texas and see where the wind takes me
10.) Start paying off student debts
11.) Start shooting portraits at least one weekend every month
12.) Reach my weight goal
13.) pass Math
14.) ASL Interpretor certification
15.) Go to the beach again and shoot a session there
16.) Travel to Corpus to see friends
17.) Possibly rent a home?
18.) Do enough shoots to purchase that really big iMac I'm dying to get.
19.) Build a lens collection - I've got my eye on a portrait lens and a sports lens right now.
20.) Have my sports work featured by Special Olympics Texas
21.) Grow a consulting business

Photography Jar

I'm horrible about saving money. It's gotten me into some trouble this year and I'm struggling to make ends meet. But, as I push and push for LEC to start making some money, the money I make will go straight into that jar. It's only a few dollars (and that's being optimistic!), but I want LEC to be self-sustaining. There are a few things I'd love to buy for my business, like a tripod, a new lens (or two!) and an iMac.

I work off of a macbook pro and while I love it, Iv'e got so many photos on this laptop, it's beginning to slow down and throw tantrum fits while I try to edit photos. I want an iMac to use as a business computer - for editing pictures and working on graphic design. But, I don't want that money to come from jobs or Mary Kay, I want that money to pay for that iMac and everything else I use for LEC to come from LEC.

It may be a while, but I will have that iMac before I graduate!

Do you have any goals you're saving for?

It's Not Easy

I honestly have no idea where this post is going to go, but this post is a one I need for myself.

It's been almost two years since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. For the longest time, I was told "just take a pill and it'll all be better."

It's been two years of increasing my dosage every six months because the medicine just won't work. Finally, they're switching me over to a new drug, and I'm about to start that. For a long time, I thought it was just something I could live with. Once the pill would work, I'd be all good to go as long as I stayed on it.

But it's not. I never realized just how much the thyroid does. I knew it controlled hormones, but that was it. I've known it was a big factor in why losing weight is so effing hard for me. I can't produce enough metabolism to burn any calories really. That, my eating habits (I'm the world's worst eater ever -but that's a different problem for another time), and the stress of school is adding more and more pounds on and I can't stand it. I'm already 2 pants sizes bigger than I was when I moved to college (I was a 12-14 when I moved here. Now I'm only a 14 on a really nice day). I can't afford to buy more clothes because I'm getting fatter.

I sleep all the time. It's always been hard to get out of bed in the morning because of my thyroid, but lately, it's just been plain ridiculous. My first class is at ten, but I set my alarm at 7:30 so that way I have time to wake up and get going before I actually have to go to campus.

Just for shits and giggles, I googled "weight loss for hypothyroidism patients" and honestly, the results are bleak looking. At this point, is there a point to going every day? It takes me weeks to get into the habit and feel better about it, and even when I do feel better about going, most days I'm still so tired.

I've also noticed that I've been feeling a whole lot weaker lately. Out of breath doing things I used to do all the time.

Hypothyroidism isn't easy. In fact, it sucks. But it's a part of my life, and it's not ever going away. At this point, all I can do is pray this new medicine works.

Answering Questions [a VLOG!]

So, remember a few weeks ago when I promised a vlog with answers? Yeah, well here it is. I know I'm extremely awkward, but you know what? That's how I am in real life, so suck it up and enjoy!

TIGF: Things I'm Grateful For, The Comeback Edition

Ashley and I used to do this series last year and I absolutely loved it. But then we just kind of stopped. For no reason, we just stopped. On the plus side, we're back now! And I could not think of a better time to bring this back!

This week, I'm grateful for:

visiting my family this past weekend . cancelled classes . deadlines for papers being pushed back . mid-afternoon storms . nice, big, comfy beds .  a great job oppourtunity . lots and lots of book editing . pizza dates with a best friend . Scandal coming back on . really funny youtube videos that make me giggle . full tanks of gas in my car . clean spots in my bedroom .  a car that works again . sleeping in late on Thursday . A nice cool front coming soon

What are you grateful for?

My Dear Love

My dear husband,

I have no idea who you are or where you are. But I think about you a lot. What our life may be like. How the decisions I make today will affect our lives together. Will we be totally different personalities or will we have all of our interests be the same?

I pray for you a lot. I pray that you make strong decisions that you won't regret. I pray that you have a whole bunch of patience because you'll need it for the rest of your life when you meet me. Maybe you're the calm and collected to my crazy. Or maybe you'll just make me even more crazy, though I don't know if that's possible.

I hope you know that I'll support you in life. I want your journey to be our journey and mine ours too. I hope you know that when your days don't go as planned, I'll always be there for you, I'll be your number one fan and I know you'll be mine.

While I enjoy being single, I can't wait to meet you and start our lives together. I can't wait to find the one I was meant to be with - that is if you believe in soul mates. You may even roll your eyes when I say that.

If I were to tell you one thing though, it's be persistent. I'll be hard to win over, careful to trust, hesitant to ever say "yes" to a date. But make me believe there's no other option for me. Make me realize that this will be the best decision of my life.

Because I won't realize it then. I won't realize how much I love you when you're standing right there in front of me.

But, know this, I do love you.

And I can't wait to meet you.

It's Time for a Cover Reveal!

Every book cover I could find of The Assassin between the blog and on facebook. These go back to the inkpop days.
Well, okay, it's not quite time yet, but it's time to share the exciting news! During my brief stunt as a book publicist for Entranced, I learned a lot about the publishing industry, including cover reveals. Cover reveals are a big deal in the publishing industry, and we like to spread the love and let others help us reveal the cover.

So, in November, I'll be showing the cover, the real, legit cover that you'll see when you buy it on your e-reader. But, I want to celebrate this exciting news with other people and I hope y'all will want to help me celebrate. Which is why I'm asking you to help me spread the word the day of!

All you need is a blog and a promise to post it the day of the reveal, NOT BEFORE. That's all I'm asking of ya! Interested? You can sign up here!
