Short Snippet Saturday (#2)

Guess what!

It happened! Last night! Snatched, went public! It's moving slowly but surely, I think if I stay on inkpop all weekend, I can get to the top 500. I'm a 916 861 right now, and it's driving me nuts! If you want to read it, click here.
So, today, I bring you Short Snippet Saturday #2. It should be three, but I was gone all day last Saturday.
Here's a scene between Zack and Zoey right before Zoey gets kidnapped.

Zack came back with the tray. "here we go. Not the healthiest stuff in town, but hey, it's still food."
"Zack, see those pictures up on the TV?"
He turned around. "Criminal sketches. What about them?"
"Those are of the men who killed Mr. R, they look exactly like those men," I said. "My description of those men couldn't be that good."
"That's weird, but, Zoey, you need to take your mind off of it for a little while." He handed me my food.
"Yeah, you're right," I said. I took the fries and took a bite out of a few. "I just.... I don't know what I'm going to do with all this free time now."
"Hey, you'll find something. You'll have more time to draw and write now. You'll be able to go to more school functions."
"Haha, that's true. More school functions. Oh, boy. But yeah, it'll just take time getting used to...."
    "You'll adjust eventually," Zack said.
"You're right, I will. I have to, why wouldn't I?" I asked. "Everyone adjusts eventually."
"Exactly, that's the mindset you have to have!"
"Yeah. This is still just weird..."
    "Hey, it'll be okay."
We finished our food and walked back outside. The sun was setting behind the mountain that overlooked the town The wind picked up and we hurried into the car.
"Stupid cold front," Zack muttered. "It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow."
    "Oh, it is?"
"Yeah, it is. What a waste of a Saturday."
    "I agree. Rainy Saturdays suck."
"Well, we don't get much of a choice, do we?"
    I laughed. "Nope."
He dropped me off at my house.
"Feel better?" he asked as I looked for my key.
"I did, but now I can't find my key!" I said.
"Well then." He leaned over and rang the doorbell.
"I was gonna get to that," I said.
    "Were you?"
    "Yeah...." I said.
Zack was leaning really close, and I was feeling a bit uncomfortable. I took a step back and ended up against the door.
    "Is anyone home?" he asked.
"I have no idea. I guess not; they would have answered by now...."
"Yeah," he said. "They probably would have."
He leaned in closer. "Zack, what are you doing?" I asked.

I'll Never Understand Northerners.

Current Mood: FRIDAY!
Currently Listening to: "Pour Me" by Trick Pony

I really will never understand how people live in -8 degree weather. See that 43 in Texas? That would be where I am, and it's still too cold! I think, if it's going to be this cold, it should at least snow!

Those are pictures from last February when it snowed almost a foot. That's a lot of snow.
When I end up going to college somewhere up North, everyone will know I'm from Texas when it snows and I have my nose pressed to the window going "so much snow!" I can totally picture myself doing it, too. I hate cold weather, snow included. It's cold and when it melts it's still cold and your toes go numb and *Shivers.* I'm sorry, I'd rather take 110 degree weather than snow.

To Series or Not to Series?

Current Mood: stressed
Currently Listening to: "The Story of Us" by Taylor Swift

To Series or Not to series? Yes, I just played off of Shakespeare.
That's a good question when it comes to writing. Remember, these are just my thoughts, and feel free to disagree with me.

Pros: I am certainly a series girl, I'm never satisfied with just one book. There's always the question, what happens after? If they get the happy ending in the first book, does it stay a happy ending? Series always expand more on the aftermath, which I like. Series give you the chance to get to know characters better. Also, once you've been published and established, series bring in more revenue for the publisher (but that isn't why you should write series.)
Cons: Sometimes series can go on.... and on.... and on..... to the point you ask, "why?" The plots get old, and reused, and the characters can get annoying if they become flat and don't grow.  If you have nothing changing over the series, the series is pointless.

Stand Alones:

Pros: That's it. There's no agonizing over the wait for the next book. If the story or characters have no where else to go, the stand alone is the best way to do it. It tells the story and it's fulfilled it's job. By only having one book, you've kept the characters fresh, and you don't have to worry about reusing the plot over and over again. New characters keep readers on their toes.
Cons: There's always the question of what if? Even after a series ends, you still want more, how is one single book supposed to work? Also, once you become published (or so I'm told) people will want series because they know the characters.

Remember, this is all just my own opinion, so feel free to disagree, I'd love to hear what you think!

Short Snippet Saturday (#1)

Current Mood: not nearly as relaxed as I should be -_-
Currently Listening to: "I'm Lit" by SHeDAISY

So, in part of my "let's-make-Lala-Land-better" plan, I'm going to be doing a weekly Short Snippet Saturday. And I'm already behind, this was supposed to happen last weekend.
So, because Snatched is my current WIP (work in progress), the next couple of weeks I'll be posting snippets from it.
This one is a biggie, this is the first major turning point in the story, and I really like the way it turned out, but I still think it could use some work.

They were gone.
    That wasn't even possible.
I ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
I pulled the phone out and dialed 911. "Hello, this is 911, what's your emergency?"
"Those men that have been robbing the stores, there here, at my house, trying to break in. They're going to try to kill me. I'm the girl who saw them kill the store owner," I said. I was starting to panic, I could hear it in my voice.
    "What's your address?"
I told the woman where I was and waited.
"Tell the police it's Zoey Lauder calling. Please, they'll know why that's important," I whispered.
I heard a loud bang and I knew they were coming.
"You look upstairs, and I'll look down here. Wherever she is, she can't hide now."
"Please, hurry. They're in the house," I whispered.
"We're sending someone over," the woman assured me.
    "Please. I'm scared," I said.
"Hey, Steve!" the man called. "There's something going on in the bathroom!"
"Oh no." I was shaking, I was scared. Scared didn't even begin to describe how I was feeling.
I could see his shadow in the crack between the door and the floor. He tried the door, but the lock held.
I wanted to sigh in relief, but I couldn't.
"Bob, is there anything in there?"
"I think so, but the door is locked."
"Then break it down," Steve said.
    "With what?"
    "I don't know. Anything."
There was silence for a moment, and then the door broke open.
I slid farther down in the tub.
    "Miss, are you still there?"
    I didn't answer.
    "Check the bath tub."
"I bet she's hiding in the bath tub."
There were feet coming towards me.
    I closed my eyes.

What's Next?

Currently Listening to: "Homespun Love" by Steel Magnolia

First off, this weekend, I got to see this handsome fellow again. =D (I couldn't choose my favorite picture. I think I'm leaning towards the picture of him and Pascal. Their faces are priceless!)
My mother told me she was truly worried for me and that having crushes on fictional characters is not normal.
I laughed at that. I'm a writer! I'll never be normal!
But, that's not the point of this post. (I wish it was :P)
The point is,

I mean, I need to do a run through of Snatched, probably this weekend, since I have a four day weekend thanks to finals! TWO MORE CLASSES! But after that, I need to work on something else before I go and edit Snatched hard core.
So, I've got a few ideas, and they're all really under-developed, but what do you guys think sounds like the one I should write next?
These are really rough ideas, so just go with it:

- A girl involved in a shooting (partly inspired by the Arizona thing), like her abuisve boyfriend tries to shoot the president or something like that. (Book 1)
-Just Perfect, the pitch is on Lala Land
- A fantasy-ish world about a girl who's romantically invovled with a superhero, and when he goes missing, she has to go save his butt. (Book 2)
-Tried, the sequel to Snatched
-Secrets Revealed, the third Assassin book.
So, what do you guys think? You can ask questions about them.
There's a poll over there ------------->>>>> Please, pretty please, vote. I'll probably leave it up until Snatched goes up.
Please? *puppy dog eyes*

Snatched *New Pitch*

17 years. Zoey Lauder had a good life for seventeen years. She's the Junior class vice president. She's got great friends, a family that supports her, and a guy that wants her.

One week. That’s how long it’s been since Zoey stumbled into work late one night and saw an a robbery gone wrong, and her boss laying on the floor, almost dead. But she’s never seen the two men who were trying to kill him. She has no idea why they would try to kill him, but after they try again and succeed, she has a feeling she might be next.
20 days and 20 nights. Zoey Lauder has been missing that long. One minute she's in plain sight; the next, vanished.  It’s not like her to just leave and never call. As time goes on, her family and friends are becoming horrified. There’s no way she could have survived, but as long as there’s no body, there’s hope. But will hope be enough for Zoey’s family when the truth becomes exposed?
So, I've finally finished Snatched and I'm quite happy to have it finished. I'll still have to edit and edit and edit some more. But just to finally have an ending is such an amazing thing.
January 28th, it goes up on inkpop. Be there!

Vampire Academy Books 1-4 Review

So, because I went through these books so fast and I don't feel like doing a review for each one, I'll be doing books 1-4 of Vampire Academy series together.

First Thoughts: The first thoughts got better with each book. I was skeptical of the first book because well, it's vampires. I thought Twilight killed the little interest I'd had in vampires.
Boy, I was wrong.
The beginning of book four had my mind racing, so I'd have to say that had the best open, but with a crazy, mind-blowing, tear-wrenching (I did cry) ending to book three, how could I not love it?
Setting: Mostly in Montana, at St. Valdmir's. I loved the setting for the book, because of the seclusion, it made me feel like I was really in a different world.
Characters: All of the characters were very well rounded, I loved Rose's point of view and the bond she and Lissa have. Don't get me started on Dimitri. <3
Writing Style: I don't even know where to begin. Amazing.
Plots: Richelle Mead, please tell me your secrets for creating such crazy, twisted, yet consuming plots! They just get better and better with everyone!

Dislikes: The end of book three! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US?!?!?!
Final thoughts: I'm halfway through book five, and I don't get to finish it until Thursday. I'll try to survive.

This has been a review by Lala!

Desparate Voices

Desperate Voices

17 year-old Natalie Ryans can hear a voice. Ther voice of her dead sister, Emily. Emily died after a brutual date rape gone bad three years earlier.
When the man suspected of killing Emily comes back to town, Natalie begins to hear her sister's voice, Her sister wants her murderer in jail, and she wants Natalie to help put him there.
But this man is determined to stay free and keep Natalie quiet, no matter the costs. With her life on the line, Natalie must make the choice, fight for her sister and die, or let the voices continue.
The choices are clear, but Natalie only wants one thing: to stop the voices.

So, I'm starting to play around with this idea? What do you guys think? Questions, comments, concerns? Let me know!

A New Year

I apologize in advance, this should have gone up yesterday, but my computer didn't work.

2011? My how the time flies. It's crazy to think I'll be eighteen in eleven, almost ten months. In eighteen months, I'll be graduating. In twenty months, I'll be a freshman in college. *Falls over* It's scary to think about sometimes. I mean, it's scary to think that people trust me to make rational decisions regarding the rest of my life.
I've met some amazing friends this past year because of my writing, Evie, Marisa, Andrea, Lindsey, Jeyn, Morgan, Sharon.... the list goes on and on. All of these guys have helped me in one way or another and I'm so lucky to have met them this year.
This year, I finally cut the ground with my writing. In January, I discovered inkpop, which I've been a part of since. In fact, my one year anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks (including the debut of Snatched). The Assassin ended up at number three for the month of October, after almost ten, long, exhausting months of getting people to read it and like it. I posted parts of the first two Assassin sequels later in the year, and while they haven't gotten nearly the attention of the first one, both have been met to good reviews.

So, I stole this idea of the top five lists from Evie (I love you!), and here's some of my lists of top fives.

Overall favorites:
1. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (I finished this New Years' Eve, it counts!)
2. Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen
3. Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich
4. Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich
5. Insatiable by Meg Cabot

Favorite sequels:
1. Motor Mouth by Janet Evanovich
2. Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich
3. Royal Flush by Rhys Bowen
4. The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory
5. Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Favorite Authors:
1. Janet Evanovich
2. Richelle Mead (and she's edging her way up to my favorite author)
3. Meg Cabot
4. Rhys Bowen
5. Philippa Gregory

Also from Evie's blog, are some goals I've got. Life goals, writing goals, reading, you name it, I've probably got a goal for it.

Writing goals: Finish Snatched *grumbles*, edit and revise it, edit and revise it again, edit and revise it again, edit and revise The Assassin, try to get The Assassin onto the publication route. I'll probably start the sequel to Snatched, though, I'm not sure if I'll even ever write it. I probably need to start Just Perfect, and there's some paranormal ideas I've got, plus some more mysteries I want to do. I've also got the Elly Ellis books I've got to work on, and a possible vampire book....?

Reading goals: Finish Vampire Academy, read all of the Janet Evanovich books, and try to read more authors, I'm picky.

Blog goals: Not to constantly redesign it constantly, though it will get a non-wintery one in the next few days/weeks. Write better posts. I might steal another Evie idea with a spin-off of her "What's What Wednesdays" which are blog posts specifically about her. I just have to ask.... Plus I'm still gonna do The Assassin blog.
Also, coming sometime hopefully this month:

I'm really excited about it, and I'll be sure to post more about it!
