Lala's Book Adventures!

Current Mood: tired, and my nose itches, but I am home!
Currently Listening to: "Walk Away" by Kelly Clarkson
Ahha! I survived another trip to Austin. And, as it was my birthday last week, I've gotten a lot of book, including Decision Points. Here's s the books I've gotten in the past week:

The Heritic's Daughter - Recommended by my APUSH teacher
The Maze Runner - Recommended by Evie
The White Queen - I love this author!
The Red Queen - The second in the series
Wicked Appetite - By my favorite author
Troublemaker - I did a review on this a while back, this summer, I think?
Part two of Troublemaker - IT CAME OUT!

I've read about half of these, and I'm not going to get to finish them all before school Monday, so they'll have to wait until next semester. -_-
Book reviews are coming back, by Evie's request!

A Sneak Preivew

Current Mood: Angry at inkpop, but that's another post, at another time
Currently Listening to: "Show Me the Way to Your Heart" by Sara Evans

Sneak Preview time!
Due to inkpop issues, I may not be a part of the sight on January 28th, and if that's the case, I will not be able to post Snatched up. So, I've decided to give y'all a special preview of it.
It's the first chapter, and it's very rough, because I haven't edited it. But I'd love to hear what everyone has to say about it.
So, if you want to read the first chapter of Snatched you should totally click on the link. :)

NaNoWriMo, why must you be in November?

Current Mood: happy, I don't have to go to school this week :)
Currently Listening to: "5 4 3 2 Run" by SHeDAISY

So.....
I think I won't waste time stating the obvious, but I finally get to read a book of my choosing, which is the first time since *counts on fingers*
August. Before school started.
I think.

I'm reading Decision Points by George Bush. Well, I haven't started it yet, but I'm still super excited. I live in Texas, and Texas is Bush country. He was the governor of Texas before he became president, so everyone here likes him because he was a good governor.
Needless to say, I'm really excited to be able to start this, and I'll have to read it all in a week, because when I get back after Thanksgiving break, I have to read The Great Gatsby, which is being made into a movie with Leonardo di Caprio, which probably means I will not be seeing it. I am not a big fan of him.
On top of that, I've decided to quit NaNo. I'm still writing Snatched, but I just didn't have the time to finish it in November. I'm only at 13K, and there's no way I'll be able to catch up now. I want to finish it before the end of the year so I can edit during January so Snatched is ready when I post it on inkpop on *January 28th,* which is my inkpop anniversary.
And then after that, I may start typing up my romance novel, which will be a trilogy. I'm handwriting it first, so if I finish, I'll start working on it, but if not, I'll pick back up on Secrets Revealed, and begin plotting Tried, Snatched's sequel. If you think hard enough, you'll figure out why it's called Tried.
I'll keep you updated with my writing decisions and everything else!

"Megara, My Friends Call Me Meg, at Least They Would if I had Any Friends"

Current Mood: Tomorrow's my birthday?!?!?
Currently Listening to: "Put You in a Song" by Keith Urban

Meg:
Everyone knows this girl, at if you don't, you've obviously been living under a rock for the past 14 years, and that is not my problem.

She's the tough girl on the outside, but the girl who's sweet on the inside.

^^That is my favorite song.

EVER

^^That looks really painful for him.

I guess, in a way, Cassie Dreandry is a lot like Meg here. They're both tough with the smart ass comments, but on the inside, both girls are afraid to fall in love. Cassie goes through this in book three, in case you were wondering.
Meg and Cassie have had their hearts broken, and both of them don't want it to happen again.
But can you blame them?
^^One of the adorable pictures ever....
And Meg and Cassie aren't the only ones afraid of falling in love. It happens all the time, fiction and reality.
We're just too afraid to admit it.
Basically, I love this movie, and Meg, because she's just amazing....
And I felt like she deserved a blog post. :D

inkpopper of the Week: tennisketter « Inkpop Blog

inkpopper of the Week: tennisketter « Inkpop Blog

“I’m sixteen going on seventeen, until Wednesday (the 17th), then I’ll be seventeen going on eighteen! I’m a junior at my school, I live in Texas where the weather is the most bipolar thing on the face of the earth, I’m in two AP classes, and I walk my dog every night, well, almost every night.”

And when she’s not walking her dog, or digging her way out of the pile of homework her AP classes require, Laura (akatennisketter) is doing what she can to leave a mark on the literary world via her series about Cassie Dreandry.

You just received a gold star for your inkpop project The Assassin and are awaiting your review from the HarperCollins editors. What is going through your mind right now? How does it feel to have made such an impact on inkpop?

Laura: Nervous. It took me a while to get up there, but I’m excited to finally have succeeded. I’m anxious to see what my editor thinks I need to work on and what I’ve got going right, and I’m most certainly excited for it. I totally think it’s crazy that a story about a teenage killer can get a gold star, but crazy things happen every day, and I’m thankful for that.

The three projects you have on inkpop – The Assassin, Revenge of the Rossetts, and Secrets Revealed – all center around character Cassie Dreandry. What is it about Cassie that makes you want to continue her story as opposed to moving on to something new – a new character, etc.?

Laura: Cassie was my first character, and I hand write all of my books first. When I finished the first one in eighth-grade, I didn’t know what else to do, so I wrote another one about her. Her story has evolved so much in my mind that I’ve still got seven more books to write about her. It’ll be really hard when I finally write the ending to that last book because Cassie and I have been through a lot in the past few years, and I think that’s why I keep writing about her.

What makes your writing unique? What sets it apart from other inkpop projects and books that have already been published?

Laura: I don’t think most people would come up with the idea of a teenage assassin, then again, I’m not most people. I think what sets it apart is how Cassie’s two worlds are so totally different and then all of the sudden these worlds are forced to co-exist. The hiccup scene at Lorriane Benson’s house is a really good example of that. I mean, have you ever thought about what happens when assassins get the hiccups while on a mission?

All three of your inkpop projects fall under the general fiction/adventure/mystery genre…would you say this is your favorite category to write? Would you ever contemplate writing within a different genre?

Laura: Mystery is my favorite genre for sure. I love the suspense but hate it at the same time. And right now, I’m actually hand writing a romance book, so it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out without a mystery to be solved!

What is your favorite place for thinking and why?

Laura: When I walk my dog. For twenty minutes a day I have nothing but my dog, my iPod and my walk to worry about. Last year I wrote the last book in The Assassin Sagaand all of my major plot points, I came up for them while walking my dog. I get to let my mind just run free while I walk her.

If you had the chance to star as a character in any book what book would it be and why?

Laura: Um, I’d have to say Em Watts from the Airhead series by Meg Cabot. I read those books having chills down my back, it was an amazing story and I love Em’s thoughts and the way she handles things.

If you could have a dinner party with five of your favorite authors who would they be and why?

Laura: Janet Evanovich, she has humor and mystery in all her books and I’m always laughing out loud at the crazy schemes she creates; Meg Cabot because she writes really good, lighthearted stories that make great books for when you’re in a bad mood; Philippa Gregory because she writes amazing historical fiction; Rhys Bowen, because she’s also great at historical fiction; and Richard Castle, because who doesn’t like Castle?

Do you hope to make writing a career; or do you have other aspirations?

Laura: I’d love to be writing as a career, but I’ve grown up in a home where I’ve learned to have a back up plan. I really want to do something in the law field when I get older. I’d be a lawyer, but law school has no appeal to me.

What do you think makes good writing?

Laura: Knowing your plot and characters is a really good start, and being able to know what works within your writing style. Basically, I think knowing your own writing style is the best way to know good writing. You have to know what works and doesn’t work.

Who is your favorite character(s) in any of your work and why?

Laura: Probably Cassie because I’ve known her the longest and I know her the best. Cassie is a lot like me, so I can relate to a lot of the stuff I put her through.

What’s on your fall/winter reading list?

Laura: A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway; The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (both for English AP); Royal Blood by Rhys Bowen; The Red Queen by Philipa Gregory; Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich. I read a lot of adult books, and AP books.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Laura: I’ve got a new book going up in late January, so be sure to look for that! It’s called Snatched.

Pop, Pop, Pop! Rapid Fire Questions:

Favorite ice cream topping? Chocolate chips. :)
What’s on your iPod? SHeDAISY, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, LeAnn Rimes.
Hidden talent? Good dog walker?
Favorite cartoon character? Kim Possible!
Favorite vacation spot? Grand Canyon.

Hope you guys like it!

Birthday Blues

Current Mood: The week is halfway over!
Currently Listening to: Well, nothing.

I've got the birthday blues.
No, today is not my birthday, I've still got a week until I turn 17. On the 17th.
Yeah, it is cheezy, but it's true. The truth is, I'm not quite sure I want my birthday to happen.
I've never had good birthdays, last year, half of the people closest to me forgot my birthday! I mean, yeah, it is my cousin's birthday too....

BUT IT WAS MY FREAKING BIRTHDAY FIRST!!!

Sorry, as you can probably tell, I've got a tiny bit of hostility towards the day of my birth.
Just a little. I swear.

But not only last year, when I turned 14, I was in a car accident. You read that right. A car accident.
No one was seriously hurt or anything, but really, a car accident!
Sometimes I feel like God is just laughing on my birthday at me. I really do.

Once again, I apologize. I just needed to vent out because no one seems to understand why I don't like my birthday.

Oh, and sometime this week, I'll have a big announcement about The Assassin Saga. Be sure to look for that, either tomorrow or Friday, I still have to verify a few things, but it'll coincide with the debut of The Assassin Saga blog!

NaNo Mania!

Current Mood: tired, silly time change
Currently Listening to: "Repent" by SHeDAISY

Well, I have 6K done of Snatched.
I should have another 6K done, but I don't. I have this little thing called AP US History.
I hate it.
And it's a 27 week class.
But, I've also decided that Snatched is going to have a sequel, and it will be titled Tried. I've already got a cover in mind, and probably sometime in January or December, I'll have a cover and pitch. When you see the cover, it'll be totally obvious as to why it's called Tried. Trust me, it will be.
But, I'll have more info on Snatched as more becomes available.
